Stoke City midfielder Charlie Adam is eager to move on from a “frustrating” 2012-13 season.

The Scotland international found himself on the periphery of the starting XI in the second half of the last campaign under former manager Tony Pulis.

But the 27-year-old is approaching 2013-14 at the Britannia Stadium with renewed optimism under new boss Mark Hughes.

“Last season was frustrating with the lack of games from Christmas onwards but that was the opinion of the old manager and that’s the way it goes,” Adam told the club’s official website.

“For us now it’s a fresh start, new ideas and we go again. The input for the last four or five days has been great and hopefully we can take that forward into the new season.

“The manager and his staff want to put their own points across but we can’t hide the fact that we’ve still got to do the things that this club has been successful at.

“But with their fresh ideas it has been great and hopefully we can get ourselves in really good shape and look forward to the most important game of the season, which is the first one against Liverpool.”
