Adebayor gives Spurs a chance against City

SoccerNews in General Soccer News 19 Apr 2013

Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor feels that Manchester City’s indiscipline under pressure gives his side an opportunity to win on Sunday.

The Togolese, who was sold by Roberto Mancini for five million pounds in the summer after spending last term on loan at White Hart Lane, feels that his former team-mates become argumentative when things do not go their way.

“We just have to believe in our quality and put them under pressure and then for sure we have a chance to win,” Adebayor said.

“For sure, because I was there (at City) and whenever things are not going their way there will definitely be a fight or an argument on the pitch and that is how we can take them down.”

Adebayor has faced criticism this season after scoring only seven goals in 33 appearances since joining Spurs permanently and admits that he has a point to prove to Mancini’s side, who were willing to take a 20-million-pound loss on him.

“It’s going to be important for me to prove how good I am,” he added. “But I don’t have any pressure that says I have to beat Man City because of the way they treated me, because they bought me expensively and sold me for cheap. That has nothing to do with football.

“I just have to go out there and play my football and find a way to help Tottenham win the game because now I play for Tottenham.

“Man City is a sacred club. I have a huge respect for the players because I got players there that I can call family. Yaya Toure, Kolo Toure and Vincent Kompany are very good friends so for me I get to play against my old team.

“Things happened in Man City. For me, I move on and (Mancini) has moved on. I wish him the best of luck. For me now Mancini is just a manager I respect, just like Arsene Wenger, like Harry Redknapp, and that’s it.”
