Athletic Bilbao’s Aritz Aduriz says his goal drought has added to his side’s poor run in La Liga.

Athletic Bilbao’s Aritz Aduriz says his goal drought has added to his side’s poor run in La Liga.

The Spanish striker has 12 league goals so far this campaign, but has not scored since January, in the 1-1 draw with Real Betis.

His side, meanwhile, has only won once in their past five games which has seen them slip down to 12th spot in the league.

“It is quite a few games now without scoring and the team is suffering. I want to end this streak and hopefully I can do so from Saturday,” the 32-year-old told reporters.

“There are many things to explain why you may not be scoring the goals.

“I can only continue to work well and I am convinced that they will come. All the players are working and in the end the goals will come. I hope it is soon.”

Aduriz believes team tactics are not behind the side’s problems, and said the side’s players are pulling together.

“Is it about our playing style? We have a very definite style of play which is down to the coach. We have no doubt that we are unanimously agreed on that aspect of what we are doing,” he said.
