Jeonbuk Motors reached the semi-finals of the AFC Champions League after a 5-0 thrashing of Shanghai SIPG on Tuesday.

Sven-Goran Eriksson’s side travelled to Jeonju World Cup Stadium on the back of a 0-0 draw in the first leg, but the Chinese Super League giants were dismantled during a clinical second-half display from the hosts.

Kim Shin-wook had an early goal disallowed for the home side in an even first half, but they took the lead seven minutes into the second period thanks to Leonardo’s clever turn and low strike.

Wu Lei shot straight at goalkeeper Kwoun Sun-tae when unmarked inside the area, and that miss was punished two minutes later, when Shi Ke prodded into his own net after some clever link-up play between Lee Jae-sung and Ricardo Lopes.

Lu Wenjun was sent off for a dangerous high challenge with just a quarter of an hour left, and Shanghai’s misery was compounded when Jeonbuk scored a further three goals in just five minutes.

Leonardo scored his second from the penalty spot before substitute Lee Dong-gook scored twice, drilling a low shot into the bottom corner from 18 yards and then converting Leonardo’s cross high into the net.

In Tashkent, a solitary goal from Caio was enough to send Al Ain into the last four at the expense of hosts Locomotiv at Bunyodkor Stadium.

The Brazilian struck the decisive blow on 38 minutes, slotting high past goalkeeper Ignatiy Nesterov after a loose ball fell his way inside the area, handing Al Ain a 1-0 victory on aggregate following a 0-0 first-leg stalemate.

Lokomotiv pressed hard for a way back into the match in the second half, but the 2003 winners held firm to keep their hopes alive of a second continental title.
