Vietnam and Myanmar played out a 1-1 draw in the opening match of the Asean Football Championship in Thailand on Saturday.

Tan Tai Le got the scoring underway for Vietnam in the 35th minute after turning in a diving header from close range before Kyi Lin restored parity from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute after he was brought down in the box.

Neither side could break the deadlock as the game wore on at a damp Rajamangala National Stadium and both had to settle for a draw.

The result sees both sides share second spot behind early leaders Thailand in Group A after they recorded a 2-1 win over the Philippines in their first game of the tournament.

Myanmar now prepare to face Thailand while Vietnam will take on the Philippines with both matches to be played on Tuesday.
