The agent of Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski has denied reports he has met with representatives of Bayern Munich.
Uli Hoeness revealed on January 7 the Bundesliga leaders were aiming to sign a top striker at the end of the 2011/12 campaign, with Bild claiming on Tuesday that the Bavarian club had held a meeting with Lewandowski’s representatives at the Eurosportsmanagement agency.
But speaking to Goal.com, the agency denied these allegations.
“Between Bayern and Robert there certainly has been no meeting,” agent Maik Barthel said.
The report of contact between the Bavarians and Lewandowski’s representatives comes following statements from Bayern’s Franck Ribery claiming that the striker is more valuable than highly rated team-mate Mario Gotze.
Barthel admitted he was pleased that such praise came from within the camp of the Bayern: “When Franck Ribery makes such a powerful statement, it’s a great compliment, which we will not take lightly,” he said. “It’s great if in Munich they see the potential that Robert has.”
Any Bayern move for Lewandowski will not prove easy.
The Poland international has earned high praise from Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp, and has a contract at the club until the end of the 2013/14 campaing.
The striker has scored 12 goals and provided six assists in 17 Bundesliga appearances this season.
