Agent: Hiddink was Inter’s first choice

(GSM) – Guus Hiddink’s agent claims the former Chelsea boss was Internazionale’s first choice candidate to take over as coach, but doubts that he will replace Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho, who led the Italians to an unprecedented treble this season, has left Inter for Real Madrid, leaving the Nerazzurri’s in search for a new coach.

And it seems Hiddink has been linked with the role with Inter playmaker and compatriot Wesley Sneijder backing the 63-year-old last week.

Inter’s interest has now been confirmed by Hiddink’s representative, Cees van Nieuwenhuizen, claiming Inter had made contact regarding the possibility of the Dutchman taking charge at the Giuseppe Meazza.

However, with Hiddink having only recently started his job as coach of Turkey, he is not expected to make a return to club management.

“The interest from Inter is not invented,” Van Nieuwenhuizen told tuttomercatoweb.it. “Inter Milan contacted me a week ago, saying that Guus was No.1 on their list.

“But I explained that Hiddink has recently signed a contract with the Turkish Federation and so his engagement [by Inter] would be, if not impossible, extremely difficult.

“I am honoured that the European champions consider my client their preferred candidate, but I think a move to Inter is an unrealistic idea.

“Even if Guus was willing to accept, Inter would have to convince the Turkish Federation.

“But I have the feeling that they have already made their choice by focusing on other coaches.”
