(GSM) – Ajax remain at four points from FC Twente after a convincing 3-0 win over Groningen on Sunday. PSV returned to winning ways at VVV Venlo.

Following Twente’s win over Sparta a day earlier, Ajax needed the win in order to keep pressure on the Eredivisie leaders.

Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen put the Amsterdam outfit ahead on 38 minutes and Siem de Jong made it 2-0 seven minutes after the hour. The third and final goal came at nine minutes from the end as Vertonghen got his second of the day, 3-0.

Third-placed PSV earned a 2-4 win at VVV, although the score hardly represents their performance throughout the game.

Otman Bakkal scored the opening goal on five minutes and Balazs Dzsudzsak doubled the advantage in the 34th. When Danny Koevermans made it 0-3 in the 53rd minute, the match was all but decided.

Ruben Schaken pulled one back five minutes later but Bakkal netted his second after another minute to restore the comfortable gap. Ruud Boymans’ goal for 2-4 in the 78th minute did little to threaten PSV’s lead.

Feyenoord’s fourth place in the league is beginning to come under severe pressure after Sunday’s goalless draw with NEC. AZ are now just one point behind, though the Rotterdam side do have a game in hand.
