Ajax wonderkid rules out summer transfer; Liverpool keeping tabs on Newcastle defender

Ajax wonderkid rules out summer transfer

Ajax wonderkid Christian Eriksen has warned interested clubs that he plans to stay at Amsterdam ArenA for at least another season.

The 18-year-old midfielder has been attracting a lot of interest ever since he was handed a debut at Ajax a year ago, with a number of English clubs stepping up the interest after Eriksen shown for Denmark in the England friendly.

However, the young footballer believes this is not the right time to be moving clubs.

“I owe the boss and am happy to continue progressing under him,” he said.

“I know what stage I am at in my development, and I know I am not ready yet for the Premier League in England or Serie A in Italy.

“I have a lot more growing up to do first, and I am at the right place for that at this club and with this manager.

“One thing I know is that I will stay at Ajax for at least another season after this one.”

Eriksen is already regarded a first team regular at both Ajax and Denmark national team despite his fragile age and if he stays at Ajax for another year or two, he could follow the footsteps of Wesley Sneijder, who is now considered one of the best midfielders in the world.

Liverpool keeping tabs on Newcastle defender

Liverpool are pondering a summer swoop for Newcastle defender Jose Enrique, according to The Mirror.

The Reds head of football strategy, Damien Comolli watched Newcastle left-back put in an impressive display at Ewood Park last weekend and he informed Kenny Dalglish of his findings.

Enrique is widely considered as one of the best left-backs in the Premiership and he was even linked with a move to Manchester United in the past.

Liverpool have major problems at left-back with Dalglish forced to use Glen Johnson on the left hand side, and they believe Jose Enrique would be a perfect solution for the ongoing problem.

The Reds are determined to further improve their squad in the summer after seeing the first positive results of Kenny Dalgslish’s reign and the Newcastle defender could be their number one target in June.

Pepe: I want to stay

Real Madrid defender Pepe revealed that he wanted to stay at Real despite being unable to agree a new deal with los Merengues.

After the contract negotiations broke down, it was expected that Pepe would leave Real at the end of the season, but the Portuguese insists that is not going to happen.

“I am very happy at Real Madrid and I will do everything possible to stay at the club.”

He was also satisfied by Jorge Valdano’s comments after the Real Madrid official claimed that the club haven’t closed the door on offering Pepe a new contract.

“It’s good to hear those words from Valdano.”

The Portugal international returned to the starting line-up following the one-month spell on the sidelines and he was understandably pleased with his first start after quite a while.

“Being in the starting line-up is a prize for me, an opportunity not to disappoint the coach.

”I have worked hard to return and I am happy with the way things turned out.”
