Former Slovenia coach Matjaz Kek has been dismissed as manager of Saudi Arabian giants Al Ittihad.
The 50-year-old, who guided Slovenia to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, was sacked by the Tigers following Tuesday’s 2-0 Saudi Pro League loss to Al Raed despite only taking up the post late last year.
The eight-time Saudi champions are currently sixth in the Pro League, sitting 22 points behind leaders Al Shabab after 19 games.
Al Ittihad, who reached the AFC Champions League (ACL) semi-finals last season and have won the continental crown twice, will compete in the 2012 edition in Group B.
Abdullah Ghorab has been appointed as the Tigers’ interim coach ahead of their 2012 ACL opener against Pakhtakor on March 6.
