Allardyce keen on Beckham

The Daily Mail is today reporting that West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce would love the chance to sign David Beckham, as long as the midfielder proves he is fit enough to compete in the English Premier League.

Although some sources related to the London club suggested that Beckham would not be right for the team, Allardyce would clearly love the opportunity to work with the former England captain.

He said: “Yes, I would like to see a fit David Beckham at West Ham. But he would need to come and do a fitness test like any other player.”

The former Manchester United man announced that he would leave LA Galaxy earlier in the week when their MLS season finishes, which has seen a great deal of speculation about where he may now see out his career.

The winger has shown over recent years that he is still extremely fit and may relish the chance to play in the English top flight once more, but the right club would have to come in for him.

He was raised in East London, not far away from Upton Park – but much is sure to depend on  whether the Hammers can offer him a good deal or if they even want to add him to their squad.
