Allegri aiming for fourth spot

Mid-table AC Milan host Fiorentina in Serie A action on Sunday hoping to build on their 5-1 victory over Chievo last weekend.

Milan’s lacklustre form of late has led to speculation surrounding head coach Massimiliano Allegri’s future, but the former Cagliari tactician insists he is unfazed by the rumours.

“I started to work with the team with great enthusiasm on the 9th of July and I’ll continue at least until 2014,” Allegri said.

“I see my team growing and we will try get back to fighting for the first three positions in the table. My guys are improving and we can still have a great season.

“We still have a chance in the Champions League and the Coppa Italia, and we still have a lot of games to play in Serie A.

“I really don’t care about these rumours and, above all, I’m focused and focussed on the work I have to do here.

“I will do it in the best possible way, because I think that my team have excellent qualities.”

The 18-time Italian champions face a tough task against a side currently fourth in the league and unbeaten in their last five matches.

Since falling to a 2-1 defeat at Inter Milan, Fiorentina have recorded four wins, including a 2-0 victory over Lazio and Allegri is expecting a difficult encounter.

“They are getting good results and are playing quite well at the moment,” he said.

“They are a good team, with excellent individual technical qualities and they’re very good at managing the ball, they have a good organisation.

“It will be a very difficult match for us tomorrow, as it was difficult against Malaga and Chievo, and as the next ones will be too.

“But similar to the game against Chievo, tomorrow we need to try and win because it’s now essential to gain some points and reach a more suitable position in the table.”
