Allegri frustrated as Juve drop points once more

Massimiliano Allegri felt Juventus’ inability to sustain their strong start was the reason for dropping points against Sampdoria on Sunday.

The Serie A leaders appeared on track to extend their 25-match winning run of home league games when Patrice Evra’s first goal for the club gave them a 12th-minute lead.

But the three-time defending champions failed to make the most of their first-half dominance and were made to pay just six minutes after the break.

Manolo Gabbiadini, co-owned by the Turin club, came off the bench to equalise with a curling left-foot shot and ensure Juve were held to a draw for the second consecutive league game.

Gabbiadini almost snatched all three points for Sinisa Mihajlovic’s men late on, but Gianluigi Buffon produced a fantastic reflex save to deny him.

“I’m sorry we were not able to bring home this win even though the guys did everything to win,” Allegri told the club’s official website.

“We played a great first half, but in the second we found it more difficult and Buffon made a big save.”

He added: “You cannot play for 90 minutes as we did in the first 55.

“But we did not exploit the opportunities created in the first half.

“We would have all loved to win, but we are leading the championship and this is the thing that counts.”

Sampdoria failed to create a meaningful attempt on goal until the 37th minute, as a tactical shift brought about positive change.

Juve pressed for a winner late on, but could not find the cutting edge to prevent their first dropped points at home in Serie A since May 2013.
