Allegri ready for Atalanta trip

AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri expects a tough encounter when his side travel to face Atalanta in Serie A on Sunday.

After a poor start to the season, Milan have improved of late and have only tasted defeat once in their last nine league games – but Allegri is taking nothing for granted.

He spoke of the improvement that counterpart Stefano Colantuono had made with the Bergamo outfit and expects his team to be under attack from the start.

“Tomorrow it will much tougher than the first match, because Atalanta are very well organized and dangerous at their home stadium, Colantuono is doing a great job and is giving a lot of intensity to his team,” Allegri said.

“They’re very good in free and corner kicks, (German) Denis is a very dangerous striker, (Giacomo) Bonaventura has improved a lot over the last year and I think he has the right qualities to play in a top team, same for (Maximiliano) Moralez.

“We need to face tomorrow’s match with the right attitude, with the attitude anyone should have in Bergamo, we need to be very good tomorrow, it was difficult last season too.”

As the January transfer window draws to a close, Allegri said he was glad that forward Robinho is staying with the club.

“Talking about the transfer market, I totally agree with what the club is doing. Four players have been sold and we’re now 22 and I think that’s the right number of players at my disposal. For the rest I cannot answer you, we’ll see what happens until January 31,” he said.

“Robinho is a great champion and Milan needs to see him back in good shape between now and June. He’s a player with great qualities, great personality and I’m happy, very happy that he remained here with us.”
