Allofs: De Bruyne happy at Bremen

Chelsea loanee Kevin De Bruyne is happy at Werder Bremen, according to the Bundesliga side’s sporting director Klaus Allofs.

The young defender is on a year-long loan at the Weserstadion, but comments attributed to him in an interview with Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad suggested he was ready to leave Germany.

However, De Bruyne denied the quotes and blamed the translation process, and Allofs has suggested the youngster is happy with the Bundesliga club – whether or not he enjoys the city of Bremen.

“Kevin’s identification with Werder Bremen is at 100 percent. Whether he is happy with the city of Bremen, the mentality or not, is another thing. He wants to be successful,” he told Kreiszeitung Syke.

“He is still inexperienced in his game and in the things he says. I answer back the critics that say that he is a typical mercenary.

“He did not have to play here. Chelsea did not want him to loan to Germany, they rather wanted him to stay in England. Kevin did it out of conviction. We talked to him pretty early – had very long talks.

“We persisted and explained to him what we had in mind. He was fascinated by our ideas. And he now told me again: ‘I’m happy that I play for Werder Bremen’.”

Allofs suggested De Bruyne’s comments shouldn’t be taken too seriously, considering he is a young player who will be desperate to impress his parent club.

“He has a four-year-contract at Chelsea” Allofs said. “It’s not wrong that it’s his dream to play for Chelsea one day. He will do anything to say the right thing from the perspective of the club that has paid tons of money for him.

“Chelsea has people who take care of the loaned-out players, people who call every two weeks. If those people receive the message that he says that he might stay here, they will write that down. That would not improve his chances of playing for Chelsea one day.

“It would not be professional and very stupid if he would say: I’m happy here, I don’t want to leave.”
