Xabi Alonso has voiced his delight with Spain’s Euro 2012 glory, but revealed his team feel less euphoric than four years ago.

Vicente del Bosque’s men comfortable beat Italy 4-0 in Kiev on Sunday to become the first national side in history to successfully defend the European title and win three major tournaments in a row.

However, Alonso has admitted the celebrations were more muted than those in Austria and Switzerland four years ago when they claimed their first piece of silverware in 44 years at Euro 2008.

“We ought to feel more euphoric, but it’s different than when we won in Euro 2008. Everything is a lot more moderate,” the midfielder told AS.

“We have celebrated with our families, but we are all very calm. There was much more euphoria four years ago. That’s simply the way things are. The team has a lot of humility.

“We were all fighting for a common goal. To win three out of three tournaments is incredible.

“It’s fantastic the first time you achieve it, but you don’t know whether your success will last. This has lasted. We just want to make the people happy.”
