AmaZulu have sacked coach Roger Palmgren after they dropped to the bottom of the Absa Premiership at the weekend.

Usuthu were beaten 1-0 at home by Free State Stars, a result which sealed the fate of the Swede, who has managed just two wins from 12 games this campaign.

It is a far cry from the success of last year, when Palmgren led the team to seventh, their best-ever finish in the PSL.

Club general manager Peter O’Connor confirmed the news and said assistant coach Fani Madida has taken temporary charge.

“We met with the coach this morning (Monday) and advised him that his services have been terminated with immediate effect and informed the players and the technical team of what has happened,” O’Connor said.

“Fani Madida will be caretaker coach until we have announced the new coach which will hopefully be will soon.”

Palmgren was the club’s technical director before he took over from the axed Manqoba Mngqithi five games into the last campaign.

He has also coached at Thanda Royal Zulu in the PSL.
