Carlo Ancelotti and Alessandro Del Piero were among those to congratulate Gianni Infantino on Twitter following his election as the new president of FIFA on Friday.
Infantino sprung a surprise by outstripping favourite Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim al-Khalifa in the first round by 88 votes to 85.
In round two, candidates required the approval of 104 FIFA federations and Infantino comfortably broke through that barrier in in Zurich, claiming 115, to become the successor to Sepp Blatter.
Here, we look at how the football world reacted to his victory on Twitter:
Truly humbled by today’s decision. Let’s bring FIFA forward together.

Wish @Gianni_2016 all the best. He’s got one hell of a job on his hands but seems a decent chap. Needs a sizeable new broom.
