Ancelotti has ´no problem´ with Beckham China visit

Paris Saint-Germain’s Carlo Ancelotti has dismissed any controversy about David Beckham’s trip to China during the international break.

While Beckham has received criticism in France for his sojourn in China to help promote the Chinese Super League, Ancelotti argued ‘everybody’ at PSG had agreed to the English midfielder’s excursion and claimed he does not understand the controversy in the French press.

Former France international Bixente Lizarazu labelled Beckham a ‘so-called player’ this week when questioning the 37-year-old’s professionalism ahead of PSG’s Champions League quarter-final versus Barcelona but Ancelotti appeared unfazed when asked about it.

“I don’t have any problem with that (the trip to China),” Ancelotti said.

“He came back and started training on Monday.

“He has worked well, he is available to play.

“There is no problem for me and I didn’t understand the controversy.

“For us, it was not a problem.”

PSG host reigning Ligue 1 champions Montpellier on Friday and will go eight points clear at the top of the French league with a win.

There is speculation Beckham will start just his third game for the capital club, while Ancelotti has reaffirmed his desire to keep the Englishman in Paris beyond this season.

Beckham signed a five-month deal in January and has played five games for PSG across all competitions.

“I would agree on Beckham extending his contract but as we said many times before, it’s a decision the club has to make with the player, and obviously the coach,” Ancelotti said.
