Paris Saint-Germain coach Carlo Ancellotti had nothing but praise for his players after they were knocked out of the Coup de la Ligue.

After a goalless 120 minutes against Saint-Etienne at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, the tie was decided on penalties.

Thiago Silva saw his effort saved and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang duly converted to give Saint-Etienne a place in the semi-finals.

Ancelotti, however, was pleased with the performance of his side.

“I have nothing to say against the players,” the Italian said.

“The team was good, the game was good, we had a good attitude, good style of play and were very good on defence and attack. We played well.

“They are disappointed. Tonight we played against a tough opponent. Our attitude was really good, I’m disappointed by the result but pleased by our performance.

“I think that after many games without consistency, tonight we played 120 minutes with consistency and in good control. Then obviously the result is not good but this performance gives us more confidence for the next game.

“We had the attitude and we kept the ball, we only lacked one goal. So the future is not a problem.”
