Fans of RSC Anderlecht and Standard de Liege will have to wait until next Sunday to know which team wins this year’s Belgian championship, as the two sides held each other to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the final play-off.
After a goalless first half, it was Anderlecht to break the deadlock through Jonathan Legear in the 52nd minute.
But Standard then needed only seven minutes for Dieumerci Mbokani to level the score and earn his side a good position ahead of the return leg, as Anderlecht will have the pressure of scoring at least one goal.
The extra play-offs are required as Anderlecht and Standard had the same amount of points at the end of the regular season. The Belgian Pro League is not decided on goal record.
