Full-back Andre Santos is not looking forward to his return to Arsenal after a spell on loan at Gremio ended with no sign of a permanent deal.

The Brazilian left the Emirates Stadium in February following the arrival of Nacho Monreal, and he enjoyed the return to his homeland.

During his time at Gremio, the 30-year-old made 14 appearances, losing only four matches, and was hoping to extend his stay with the club.

However, they were unable to meet his transfer value, meaning that he will now return to England.

“My loan deal is over,” he told Radio Grenal. “It was six months long and now I am returning. Gremio had an agreement with Arsenal and I have to return.

“I wanted to stay. Gremio were fair regarding everything. I felt well there and I wanted to win a title before leaving.

“Unfortunately there is no deal and I had to return to Arsenal.”

Santos has not had the best of times in London since his arrival from Fenerbahce, making just 23 appearances under Arsene Wenger and finding himself behind Kieran Gibbs and Monreal in the battle for the left-back shirt.
