Real Madrid defender Pepe is set to miss more than a month of football, after undergoing ankle surgery.
The 29-year-old felt discomfort in his right ankle and travelled to Porto for a consultation on Wednesday morning, with surgery the required course of action.
The Portugal international is now set to undergo a short period of recuperation, though the reigning La Liga champions expect him to return for the Champions League meeting with Manchester United on February 13.
Pepe has played a crucial role for Real so far this term, making 16 league appearances for Jose Mourinho’s side.
