Appiah wary of Niger threat

Ghana coach James Kwasi Appiah has warned his side’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations match against Niger will be their toughest yet.

The Black Stars sit on top of Group B after following up a surprise 2-2 draw against the Democratic Republic of the Congo with a narrow 1-0 win over Mali.

While the Ghanaians are currently in a strong position, Appiah was quick to stress his side are no certainties to qualify and must prepare well in order to overcome Niger.

“We have played two games and for me the next game is the most difficult one,” he said.

“They (Niger) are very disciplined tactically and I see it as a game that will be very difficult for us. For that reason we need to prepare very well.”

Midfielder Derek Boateng echoed his coach’s sentiments, insisting his team-mates will go into the game with confidence after preparing thoroughly.

“This game is not going to be easy but we have prepared and we have been training very hard,” the Ukrainian-based player said.

“We are ready for them, every country that plays against Ghana finds it very tough. It will be more difficult than our two previous games. We know that but we will try and go out and win the game.”
