Competition: World Cup
Market: Lionel Messi to score anytime
Odds: 6/5 @ 888 Sport
Argentina forward Lionel Messi will be hoping to put himself in contention of winning the Golden Boot by netting against Belgium in the South American’s World Cup quarter-final clash tonight.
Messi, who plays his club football for Barcelona, hasn’t been at his spell-binding best, but he’s still netted four goals in this summer’s tournament.
Belgium won’t be easy to break down this evening, however. The Rode Duivels have conceded just one goal in normal time in the World Cup so far, and Argentina have struggled against sides who sit back and look to nullify the opposition.
Nevertheless, 888 Sport are giving odds of 6/5 for Messi to get himself on the score sheet to help see Argentina into the semi-finals. Manager Alejandro Sabella was keen to play down the 27-year-old’s importance to his country, but considering Lionel Messi has contributed to 71% of Argentina’s goals in this summer’s World Cup, he remains a pivotal figure if they are to progress.
