Arnautovic seeking Bremen redemption

Werder Bremen forward Marko Arnautovic is hoping to make amends for his “big mistake” after rejoining the Bundesliga club’s squad.

The Austria international was suspended by the club after he was caught speeding in April, with team-mate Eljero Elia also punished as a result of the incident.

The pair were omitted from the first team for the remainder of the campaign, but the arrival of Robin Dutt as the club’s new coach has seen him afforded a chance to revive his career in Germany.

“It was a great feeling to be back with the team again,” Arnautovic said at the club’s pre-season camp in Austria.

“I had been away for four or five weeks and that hurt. The issue is behind us and I’m delighted to be back. It would be stupid if I didn’t learn from it.

“It was a big mistake and we know that.”

The 24-year-old spoke to Dutt and Bremen director of sport Thomas Eichin following his return, and Arnautovic said the issue had now been fully resolved.

“He (Dutt) has faith in me and that is important,” the Austrian continued. “I’ve spoken to the coach and director of sport and cleared everything up.”
