Arsenal can still win title: Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes his team can still lift the Premier League trophy if they win their five remaining games.

Wenger’s men are third, six points behind leaders Manchester United, ahead of Sunday’s trip to Bolton but Wenger is adamant that securing all 15 points would see his side win the title.

“I am convinced that if we win our five games we will win the championship,” he said.

“But the target is to win the next one and let’s focus and give absolutely everything to win the next one.”

“This championship will go to the most solid team, mentally. Not necessarily to anybody else.”

“The mental part of the belief is the most important thing to have in the last five games.”

“I have no doubt at all that we can win all five games.

“We have a good basis because we are consistent.

“As you know, we have played 16 games without losing.

“What I feel is most important for us is to keep the belief and to win.”

Wenger has also denied having confrontations with other Premier League managers.

“I must say that in the last games I had no confrontations with the other managers frankly and I would like you to see if the other managers had confrontations with me. (It) is not my problem but I had no confrontation with any manager,” he said.

“I cannot sit there and be placid like I am on dope.”

“I care about the game and I am motivated to win the game and agitated yes but it is one thing to be agitated and in control of your decisions and being lucid.”

“Or completely out of control, I am not out of control.”

“I am agitated because I want my team to win the game. Of course I am and I’m ready to fight, believe me.”

After Arsenal’s midweek 3-3 draw with Tottenham and Chelsea’s victory over Birmingham, the two sides are now level on points.

But Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has said his side are now the main challengers to leaders Manchester United.

Wenger rubbished Cech’s claim.

“I’m quite open to everything but mathematically that’s quite difficult to understand the logic of his statement,” Wenger said.

“When they have the same number of points, mathematically I cannot see a difference.”

“Of course he will say Chelsea are the form team because you cannot say they are not.”

Arsenal will be without defender Thomas Vermaelen (Achilles’ tendon) and midfielder Abou Diaby (calf) for the trip to The Reebok Stadium.
