Arsenal eyeing Papadopoulos

Daily Express has suggested that Arsenal have been showing interest in Schalke defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos.

The highly rated stopper, who is currently sidelined through injury, continues to be linked with a move away from the club.

Liverpool were reportedly looking to sign the Greece international in the summer transfer window, but ultimately opted for Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori.

According to Daily Express, Arsenal have moved to pole position to sign the 21-year-old centre-back.

Even if Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny have established a solid defensive partnership of late, Arsene Wenger is looking to further increase competition for places at the back by adding Papadopoulos to the ranks.

The Greek footballer has spent last three years at Schalke, but his career at Veltins Arena has been plagued by numerous injuries.

That is the main reason why Papadopoulos only made 57 Bundesliga appearances for the Miners, scoring 3 goals in the process.
