Arsenal sign Nigerian youngster

Nigerian defender Semi Ajayi has revealed on his official Twitter account that he has signed a deal with Arsenal.

The 19-year-old has been on trial at the Emirates during the last few weeks and  he has been offered a contract by the Premier League side after impressing in two outings for the Under-21 team.

The centre-back came through the youth ranks at Charlton Athletic, but was released at the end of last season after returning from a loan spell at Dartford.

He has since represented Nigeria Under-21 at World Youth Festival in Toulon, making three appearances for the Super Eagles.

Ajayi has done some pre-season training with Norwich, but was then invited for a trial by Arsenal, and has now officially signed for the Gunners.

The talented centre-back helped Arsenal Under-21 side keep a clean sheet in both of his appearances, while he also scored a goal in the victory over Blackburn.

Hi Samuel, thank you for pointing to the mistake. I was well aware the nickname is Super Eagles, but didn’t realize I had written Green Eagles instead.
