Aston Villa eyeing Pontus Jansson

Malmo FF defender Pontus Sven Gustav Jansson could be the subject of a January bid from Astom Villa, Daily Star has revealed.

Paul Lambert is reportedly on the lookout for defensive reinforcements and he has been alerted of Jansson’s potential.

Having had the player watched on several occasions this season, Lambert is ready to step up his interest in the winter transfer window.

The problem is that Southampton, as well as clubs from Germany and Holland, are also believed to be keen.

Pontus Jansson came through the youth ranks at Malmo FF and went on to make 88 league appearances for the club, scoring 5 goals in the process.

He is an important member of the squad that have already secured the league title, and latest reports are enough to suggest it is only a matter of time before he leaves Sweden for greener pastures.

The 22-year-old has earned 2 Sweden caps to date, while he was an unused substitute in the 2014 World Cup qualifier against Ireland in September.
