Aston Villa manager, Martin O’Neill, is prepared that his might lose his skipper Gareth Berry this summer, who recently has been linked very strongly to Liverpool. O’Neil has identified the Chelsea midfielder Steve Sidwell as a potential replacement for Gareth Barry.
Chelsea are willing to offload Sidwell this summer, who has started only 13 matches for Chelsea this season after joining on a free transfer from Reading 12 months ago. A price in the region of £5m has been mentioned.
Both midfielders Nigel Reo-Coker and Stilian Petrov are leaving a rather poor season behind them at Aston Villa, and O’Neill has turned to Werder Bremen’s Brazilian playmaker Diego to spice up the midfield for next season.
The 23-year old Brazilian international has been one of the best players in the Bundesliga for the past two seasons, and has been linked with clubs of the likes of Juventus, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City in the past.
