Aston Villa make £7 million offer for Newcastle winger

Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill looks to bolster his very thin squad ahead of next season to help him build up on an extraordinary season for his team. According to The People, he has identified Newcastle winger James Milner as the solution to his right wing problem and tabled a £7 million bid for the young Englishman.

Milner is also thought to be wanted by Everton and, Newcastle United will use this to their advantage as they will not let the winger go for a cheap price. The People thinks that the Toon board is holding out for a £9 million bid. It remains to be seen whether O’Neill will follow up his interest given the high price tag.

The Aston Villa squad did not have enough depth this season to keep their charge for a UEFA Cup spot alive long enough. One of the pieces which was missing from O’Neill’s puzzle was a right winger. Several players were tried in that position over the course of the season but none could serve Gabriel Agbonlahor and John Carew as well as Ashley Young did from the left flank. James Milner could fit into that position and complete Aston Villa’s attacking quartet.

This will also be good news for England as three of the brightest young stars available to Fabio Capello would play their trade together. Ashley Young, Gabriel Agbonlahor and James Milner played together at the U21 level, but if they manage to gel with each other, this could give the English national team a more potent attacking weapon than the one available now.
