Aston Villa ponder bid for Nemanja Vidic

Premier League strugglers Aston Villa are considering offering a contract to former Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic, Il Corriere dello Sport has suggested.

The Serbian defender has seen a very disappointing spell with Inter Milan come to an end as the two sides agreed on mutual termination and the veteran centre-back is now free to negotiate with interested sides.

And it appears that Aston Villa are ready to offer him an opportunity to return to English Premier League as they have held initial talks with Vidic’s agent.

The Premier League bottom-placed side desperately need to patch up the leaky defence if they want to survive the current campaign and they believe the Serbian stopper can add much needed steel to the back line.

It appears that numerous injuries have taken its toll on Vidic as he largely struggled in Italian Serie A, but he is probably eager to ensure he does not get remembered by under-par performances at Inter Milan.
