Athletic launch bid for Illarramendi; Monaco splash out on Bernardo Silva

Athletic Bilbao have submitted an official transfer offer for Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi, according to Marca.

Los Leones have sent a formal bid believed to be in the region of €20m to €25m and are now awaiting response from Madrid.

Athletic are a bit short of options in the centre of the park, especially with Mikel Rico nearing the end of his career and they have decided to launch an assault on the former Real Sociedad star.

Illarramendi is currently not in the first team plans of coach Carlo Ancelotti and it is believed he is tempted by the prospect of joining los Leones.

Real Madrid are expected to seriously consider the proposal given that the 24-year-old has utterly failed to live up to his €30m price tag.

Illarramendi has made a total of 41 league outings since arriving from Anoeta, scoring 2 goals in total.

Monaco splash out on Bernardo Silva

Ligue 1 giants Monaco have completed the purchase of midfielder Bernardo Silva’s contract from Benfica, the Portuguese side have announced.

The 20-year-old arrived at Stade Louis II on a season-long loan in the summer, and he has done enough to earn a permanent deal.

In a statement to Portugal’s Securities and Exchange Commission, Benfica revealed that Silva had been sold to Monaco for a fee of €15.75 million.

Bernardo Silva moved to the Principality after impressing while playing for the Eagles reserve side, and he did well to establish himself as a first team regular at Stade Louis II.

The youngster amassed 15 league appearances, starting 11 of those fixtures and scoring two goals, while making three substitute appearances in the Champions League.

Having won eight of last ten matches in all competitions, Monaco can be backed at 17/10 to see off Lille on the road.

Niang agrees Genoa switch

La Gazzetta dello Sport has learned that Genoa are set to complete the signing of French attacker M’Baye Niang from AC Milan.

Despite enjoying a great first part to the season, the Rossoblu were looking to improve their attacking options and they appear to have secured the signing of the talented forward.

An agreement has been reached for a six-month loan, with Niang already saying goodbye to his teammates before travelling to Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

This will be another opportunity for the highly rated striker to kick-start his career, with the 20-year-old failing to prove his worth at San Siro.

Niang did show some promise while on loan with Montpellier last term, scoring 4 goals in 19 Ligue 1 appearances.

But, having started just one Serie A fixture for the Rossoneri, the youngster jumped at the opportunity to move to Genoa.
