Atletico agree deal for Alderweireld

Dutch newspaper Voetbal International has revealed that Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement to sign Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld from Ajax.

The two clubs have been locked in negotiations over the last couple of weeks, but it appears the breakthrough has finally been made.

According to Voetbal International Ajax have accepted the latest offer of €7 million, with the player agreeing to a four-year deal.

With all important details sorted, the transfer should be wrapped up well before Monday’s transfer deadline.

Alderweireld had been heavily linked with a move to English Premier League, but Atletico Madrid eventually managed to win the race for the player’s signature.

The 24-year-old could find it hard to break into the starting line-up at Vicente Calderon, with Miranda and Diego Godin already establishing an excellent defensive partnership.

Alderweireld’s arrival is likely to see Martin Demichelis complete his proposed move to Manchester City.
