Portuguese daily newspaper Record has learned that Atletico Madrid are stepping up their efforts to recruit winger Nicolas Gaitan from Benfica.
Los Colchoneros look set to cash in on star footballer Arda Turan and they see the Argentine as a very good long-term replacement.
Atletico Madrid officials have already established the first contact with Benfica and there have been some new developments of late.
Namely, los Colchoneros are prepared to include striker Raul Jimenez in the deal, which could help complete the transfer seeing as the Eagles are in the market for attacking reinforcements.
The Mexican would probably be loaned to Benfica this summer, and no doubt he would have a much better chance of nailing down a regular starting berth at Estadio da Luz.
Meanwhile, Nicolas Gaitan should finally join a top European club after being linked with a host of high-profile sides including Manchester United, Arsenal and Valencia.
