Atletico join race for Patricio; Rafinha set for Schalke return

Atletico Madrid have made a check on Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper Rui Patricio, reports A Bola.

Loc Colchoneros are bracing themselves for life without Thibaut Courtois, who looks set to return to Stamford Bridge when his loan spell ends in the summer.

The Vicente Calderon outfit are looking at a number of high-profile keepers and they appear to be readying a bid for Sporting Lisbon star Rui Patricio.

According to A Bola, Atletico Madrid had the player watched as Sporting recorded a 3-2 win over Moreirense at the weekend.

The Lions are in such a difficult financial situation that they have no choice but to consider any serious offer for their players, and it looks as though they won’t be able to ward off interest for Patricio for much longer.

Arsenal are also rumoured to be keen on the 25-year-old, and the Gunners reportedly had a €10 million bid rejected for the player’s services.

Rui Patricio, a first team regular for both club and country, is predicted a bright future in the game.

Rafinha set for Schalke return

German daily Bild has suggested that Schalke have made Bayern Munich defender Rafinha their number one target for the summer transfer window.

The Miners are on course to yet another top 4 finish in Bundesliga, but club chiefs are not at all satisfied with team’s showings this season.

Schalke are, therefore, looking to reinforce the squad for the 2013/2014 season, with Brazilian defender Rafinha the first name on their hit-list.

The 27-year-old enjoyed a lot of success during the five years he spent in Gelsenkirchen, but his career started taking a turn for the worse when he opted to leave the Miners.

After spending one season at Genoa, Rafinha made a switch to Bayern Munich, and he went on to make 24 Bundesliga appearances in his first season at the club.

However, he has since lost his place in the side and started just 2 Bundesliga matches this term.

Schalke officials are hopeful that the promise of regular first-team football will help lure the player back to Veltins Arena.

Immobile nears Napoli switch

Genoa striker Ciro Immobile could be on his way to Napoli in the summer transfer window, the Rossoblu have confirmed.

The Azzurri are looking to add the talented forward to their ranks as they aim to continue the process of squad rejuvenation.

The problem is that the player is currently co-owned by Genoa and Juventus, but at least the Rossoblu are prepared to negotiate a deal.

“Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis wants to base the future on youngsters and Immobile is a youngster,” Genoa chairman Enrico Preziosi told Sky Sport Italia.

“If he is of interest then we can sit down and discuss it, especially as we could be keen on a few Napoli players.”

Ciro Immobile made a name for himself as he scored 28 goals in 37 Serie B matches for Pescara last term while on loan from Juventus, and he has been showing signs of promise this campaign as well.

The 23-year-old netted 5 times in 28 matches for Genoa, although he has recently lost his starting place.
