Atletico line up Bergessio bid

Spanish daily AS is reporting that Atletico Madrid are weighing up a bid for Catania striker Gonzalo Bergessio.

Los Colchoneros have been looking at a number of players as they continue their search for a successor to Radamel Falcao, but they have yet to make an official bid for one of their targets.

Nevertheless, AS understands that Atletico officials have made Catania forward Gonzalo Bergessio their number one target.

Having contacted both the player’s employers and his representatives, los Colchoneros are confident they can close the deal before the start of pre-season training.

While Catania value the striker at €7 million, the player himself would require a €2 million yearly wage if he is to join Atletico.

Gonzalo Bergessio, 28, has spent last two years at Stadio Angelo Massimino, scoring 20 goals in 66 Serie A appearances for the club.

Despite the somewhat poor scoring record, Atletico officials believe the player’s experience and physical presence would make him an asset at Vicente Calderon.
