In a surprising news following Kevin Gameiro’s hat-trick for Atletico Madrid at the weekend, the Daily Mirror is reporting that the Spanish giants are prepared to let the French forward leave at the end of the current campaign.

La Liga side forked out £35 million for Gameiro last summer, but saw their expensive investment fail to repay itself as Gameiro widely struggled to gain footing with Los Rojiblancos in the 2016/17 season.

The French forward made only 15 La Liga starts this season and contributed with nine goals thus far as he shared minutes with Fernando Torres for the most part of the season thus far.

Having failed to live up to expectations, the 29-year-old has been linked with a departure and a possible move to the Premier League, but Atletico Madrid are unlikely to part ways with the striker that easily despite the claims.

Namely, with Antoine Griezmann widely tipped to leave for Manchester United and Fernando Torres nearing the end of his contract with the club, Gameiro could remain the only attacking option at the club.
