Babel: Ajax should have beaten Feyenoord

Ryan Babel feels that Ajax deserved all three points in their Eredivisie clash against Feyenoord at De Kuip.

The reigning champions appeared to be on their way to victory after Siem de Jong gifted them a 2-1 lead in the second-half, but Graziano Pelle’s 90th minute equaliser meant the Amsterdam giants had to settle for a point.

“We have lost two points here. Feyenoord are a strong team, but we could and should have won the match,” Babel told Goal.com.

“You know that you can’t dominate a game for the full 90 minutes, but everything seemed to go fine for us for a long time.

“Feyenoord did get a bit stronger (after Niklas Moisander’s dismissal), but they didn’t create many chances. Pelle is strong on the ball and in the air, and he eventually made the difference for them.”

The former Liverpool attacker also had his say on referee Bas Nijhuis’ performance, and was not too impressed with the man in black following his decision to send off Moisander for two bookable offences.

“I feel that he was not consistent in his decisions. He could give those two cards, but he waved play on when (Jordy) Clasie kicked lumps out of me,” he said.

“The second yellow card for Niklas was too harsh in my opinion. The match swung in Feyenoord’s favour after that.”

Ajax and Feyenoord are joint fourth in the Eredivisie with 18 points from 10 games.
