Ballack talks up Bayer Leverkusen exit

German midfielder Michael Ballack says in no uncertain terms that he will be leaving Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the season.

The former Germany international has a contract that is set to expire at the end of the season and he has now made it clear that he wants to leave Bay Arena.

The German giants have been trying to persuade the veteran midfielder into signing a new deal, but the player reveals he is disappointed by the attitude shown towards him.

“This is an embarrassing failure. His attitude disappoints me. I expected much more from him,” Ballack said of Bayer Leverkusen chairman Wolfgang Holzhauser in L’Equipe.

The 35-year-old claims that he has already made a decision to quit Bayer when his contract expires in the summer.

“In a few weeks this chapter will be closed, because obviously I will not renew. I want to honour my contract and leave with my head high.”

The former Chelsea playmaker doesn’t think about retirement and is already looking forward to a new challenge.

“I believe I have demonstrated a good level of performance during the first half of the season. I feel too good to retire. I physically feel sharp.”

Bayer Leverkusen face Barcelona in the Champions League last 16 stage this evening, but Michael Ballack has been ruled out of the clash through injury.
