According to AS, Barcelona have completed the signing of Gremio midfielder Arthur Melo for a fee of €30 million along with €10 million in add-ons. The Brazilian will sign a five-year contract with the Catalan giants.
AS claim that numerous media outlets in Brazil have reported the deal, while Barcelona themselves refused to deny it when contacted by AS.
Arthur made 51 appearances for Gremio and scored two goals for them. Being 21 years old, he will be hoping that a move to a club of the size of Barcelona would help him break into the Brazilian national team, though it might be too late to achieve that goal by this year’s World Cup that is being held in Russia.
He will not however find it easy to get into the Barcelona team, regardless of his vast talent. The Blaugrana signed Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool only two months ago, Paulinho has found a new level at the Camp Nou since his arrival last summer, and there are still the likes of Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets and Ivan Rakitić to consider. But given his age, Arthur might considered a good option for the future.
