Barcelona desperate to keep hold of Sergi Roberto

The People is reporting that Barcelona are eager to tie down talented midfielder Sergi Roberto to a new long-term deal.

The 23-year-old has largely impressed this season and he appears to have nailed down a regular starting berth in Luis Enrique’s squad.

His impressive displays did not go unnoticed as top European sides have started casting admiring glances his way, with Premier League holders Chelsea reportedly leading the chase at the moment.

With the Blues watching the youngster in action on regular basis, Barcelona officials have decided to act and ensure Sergi Roberto does not leave Camp Nou any time soon.

The talented footballer has a £21.5 million release clause in his contract, but coach Luis Enrique wants the amount increased to at least £32 million.

Sergi Roberto first started deputizing for Dani Alves on the right flank before an assured midfield performance in El Clasico proved he can excel in his natural position as well.
