Barcelona join race to sign Chelsea target

Talk Sport is today reporting that Chelsea target Mehdi Benatia is now on Spanish giants Barcelona’s radar as they are looking to tighten up their leaky defence.

The Udinese defender is attracting the attention of a number of European clubs, including Serie A outfits Juventus and AC Milan.

Both Chelsea and Barcelona look to be the front-runners to land him in the January transfer window though as neither Roberto Di Matteo or Tito Vilanova are happy with their defensive performances this campaign.

Barca conceded four goals away to Deportivo last weekend in La Liga and then one at home to Celtic in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

The English Premier League outfit went down 2-1 at Shakhtar Donetsk and Di Matteo was less than impressed with the way his men defended.

The 25-year-old has played seven times in the Italian top flight this season and put in some superb performances.

It is thought a number of clubs will look to make a move for Benatia in the January transfer window, but Udinese will want a big transfer fee for one of their most prized assets.

It is certainly a story to keep an eye on over the next few months.
