Barcelona step up interest in Courtois

Atletico Madrid have been informed that Barcelona are interested in signing goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois in the summer transfer window, according to Marca.

The Catalans see the Belgian keeper as a perfect long-term replacement for Victor Valdes and the latest reports suggest the player is also keen on moving to Camp Nou.

However, the problem is Chelsea and especially Jose Mourinho are not interested in selling the 21-year-old to Barcelona.

On the other hand, the Blues are prepared to negotiate a deal with Atletico, who have been told they can sign Courtois for €20 million.

As a result, Barcelona officials are hoping that los Colchoneros can complete the purchase ahead of the summer so that they could then resell the player to them.

The interesting thing is that the two clubs are locked in the battle for the La Liga trophy, although the Catalans remain 4/7 favourites to win the La Liga title.
