Barcelona step up chase for Gelson Martins

Portuguese media outlet A Bola has learned that Barcelona are showing interest in Sporting Lisbon winger Gelson Martins.

The highly rated youngster has enjoyed an impressive start to the new season, quickly catching the eye of Europe’s top clubs.

The likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are just some of his suitors, and it appears that Barcelona have joined the race as well.

The Catalans plan to reinforce their front line as they lack cover for the MSN trio, and Gelson Martins is one of the players they are looking at.

Martins has a contract until June 2021 with Sporting CP and a €60 million release clause, but the Lions may not be able to hold on to him for much longer.

The 21-year-old has been in scintillating form this term, having managed 2 goals and no fewer than 7 assists in 10 Primeira Liga outings.
