Barry linked with Aston Villa return

The Mirror understands that Aston Villa will attempt to re-sign Gareth Barry from Midlands rivals West Bromwich Albion this summer if they are promoted to the top flight.

Steve Bruce’s side are guaranteed of a fourth place finish in the Championship and are likely to play Middlesbrough in the play-off semi-finals later this month.

Should they make it back to the Premier League they are looking to bring back former captain Barry, who began his career at Villa Park and has gone on to make more appearances in the division than anyone else.

The thirty-seven year old midfielder, who is one of a number of players set to leave West Brom should their expected relegation be confirmed, has played twenty-nine times for the Baggies this season in all competitions with his one and only goal for the club coming in a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United back in December.
