News of the World reports that Liverpool have not reached a deal for Aston Villa’s Gareth Barry. It was thought that the England midfielder would travel to Liverpool to have medical on Sunday, but Martin O’Neill has categorically denied those rumours.
“There is not a grain of truth in this story that the club or Randy Lerner agreed any deal with Liverpool.
“We have waited over a week for them to come back to us and respond to our price for Gareth.
“They know what it is but their original offer hasn’t changed.†Said O’Neill as reported by News of the World.
Aston Villa want £18 million for their captain, but Liverpool have offered £15 million at most, according to various reports. Arsenal were also rumoured to be interested in Barry, but they have yet to lodge a bid. Should neither club managed to meet Aston Villa’s asking price, Barry will be in limbo as hi Aston Villa career has surely come to an end.
