Barton: I´d walk into England squad

Joey Barton believes he has the ability to walk into Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2012 squad and says the only thing holding him back is his behaviour.

The 29-year-old, who has just one international cap to his name, made 26 appearances for Queens Park Rangers last season and captained the side to Premier League survival.

However, the midfielder also amassed eight yellow cards and two reds last season, while also being embroiled in controversy away from the football pitch.

“On ability I walk in the squad, on behaviour I don’t,” he wrote on his Twitter account.

Barton also slammed Hodgson’s decision to call up Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson, while expressing dismay that a number of other Premier League players had been left out of the squad.

“If Henderson got in, any Englishman not currently in the squad has to feel aggrieved.

“How (Grant) Holt, (Micah) Richards, (Michael) Carrick, (Rio) Ferdinand, (Leon) Osman, (Daniel) Sturridge etc never got involved is a travesty.”
