Baup bemoans late Marseille lapse

Marseille head coach Elie Baup has bemoaned his side’s lack of composure after they recorded a disappointing 2-2 draw with Nice on Sunday.

An 88th-minute equaliser from Fabrice Abriel denied the hosts all three points leaving Baup baffled as to why his side could not retain possession in the final minutes.

Baup was also unhappy with his strikers for failing to convert their chances against their Mediterranean coast rivals.

“(In the first half) the way we played, is the football we set out (to play) and the way we tried to create some chances like we do since the beginning of the season,” he said.

“We have to score when we get a chance. We get a lot of opportunities and at the end of the first half we were winning only 1-0.

“You have to be efficient in the opponent’s penalty area. You have to be efficient in your own penalty area as well, with regards to marking or during some free-kicks.

“We have qualities regarding the possession of the ball and the construction of the game. But we have to be more aggressive and the main thing is to be able to be good in the both penalty areas.

“These kinds of situations, I spoke about it already, I do it all the time. When you are winning five minutes from the end of the game you have to keep the ball and to protect it.

“You do not have to help the opponent to create some chances. We should have kept the ball on the wing.”
